The City of New Braunfels is participating in the Edwards Aquifer Habitat Conservation Plan, the culmination of a decades-long conversation on how to best protect the endangered species of the Comal and San Marcos rivers and springs. The City embarked on the Habitat Conservation Plan in coordination with the Edwards Aquifer Authority, Texas Parks and Wildlife and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Sediment island removal project being done as part of the EA HCP. Not only is this benefiting an endangered species (Fountain Darter) in this reach of the old river channel (near the spring fed pool and golf course), it is restoring the area to its natural state. The Edwards Aquifer Authority is supporting the cost of this worthwhile project which benefits not only the region but also New Braunfels.
